Does Richard have perfect pinch?

Not having to measure anything. I knew very little about tea before getting a job with two leaves and a bud, but it’s a steep learning curve. (Steep. Ha! But pun not intended.) One of the first items in the office I met was the little blue scale that we use to measure out loose tea. “Aim for about 2.5 grams per cup of tea,” Bess told me on my first day, putting a pinch of tea onto the scale. It turns out, each of our sachets contains about 2.5 grams of tea … Continue reading

A new world of tea to explore

If I asked you if you’d like a cup of tea, what kind would you want? In your head you’re going through all the varieties of tea you can think of, trying to make a decision. Maybe Earl Grey, Chamomile, some variety of green tea … But how about Lapsang Souchong? Or Pinhead Gunpowder? Or Silver Needles? Did you think of those? The world of tea is really, really large. Consider that at two leaves and a bud we have 16 different offerings of tea that come in sachets, but those barely scratch the surface of how many varieties of tea are out there. This is one reason why we recently started offering 15 new teas only  in loose form, known as our “exclusively loose” line of teas. These are wildly different teas — from the polarizing smokiness of the … Continue reading

The art of gift giving

The gift-giving season isn’t the easiest time of year for many of us. It’s not full of “I found the perfect gift that will tell you just how much I love you” moments.  Often times you experience more “I’m so stressed out; I hope you forgive me for this less than perfect gift” moments. (Unless you count the time I designed a beer stein for my dad’s homecrafted brew. That was perfect.) Richard, founder and owner of two leaves and a bud tea. co., passed out some small gifts to those of us who work in the office. We each got a tea sachet-holder, for lack of a better term, made by a local potter. Maybe Richard is sick of watching us over-steeping our tea at our desks, because we don’t have good places to put a used sachet that … Continue reading

Two leaves and a … heh, heh

Several weeks ago we had a job opening and ads placed in local newspapers. Soon after we received a call from someone who was interested because they thought we were a medical marijuana dispensary. It makes sense — “bud” is one of hundreds of references to pot, and ever since our state of Colorado legalized the sale of medical marijuana, dispensaries have been opening at a steady rate, including three in the town of Aspen, not far from our office. (A friend of mine noted only Aspen would have more medical marijuana dispensaries than pharmacies.) Whoever answered the phone was good at explaining that we sell tea, not Cannabis. And we all shared a laugh after she hung up. And then we shared another laugh when someone walked in our front door last week and asked the same question. So … Continue reading
