At two leaves tea company™, we take our tea and our community personally.
Our small company is based in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado, because we love living in the mountains! Two leaves™ supports dozens of local organizations, providing them with nearly $5,000 worth of tea annually to bolster their fundraising efforts. Specifically, we prioritize our giving so it focuses on organizations that promote education and preserve the natural environment where we love to live, work and play.
But it doesn’t stop there — we see our company’s role in the global marketplace, and the integral part some nonprofits play in creating visionaries both to preserve the quality of our planet, and ensure a higher quality of living for everyone on this gorgeous rock we call Earth. We’ve selected valuable and effective charitable organizations like these to support because we want to have a positive impact on the world, just like they do.
Our valley’s first-ever bike-sharing program
Two leaves tea company™ is proud to sponsor a bicycle in our local bike-sharing program! Our CEO and founder, Richard Rosenfeld, is an enthusiastic cyclist himself, and he sits on the board of WE-Cycle Aspen. Bike-sharing began in Aspen in the summer of 2013, and the community quickly embraced it as a step toward operational and environmental sustainability. Richard, who toted his folding Brompton bike all over the world for years, discovered bike-sharing in Paris with their Vélib’ bike-sharing program. Now he loves being able to bike around Aspen at a moment’s notice … lots of us love that! Let’s face it — grabbing a bike off a rack and zipping across town on an errand run is just plain fun.
Can we pedal together toward a clean, bright and healthy future? We think so! WE-Cycle aims to reduce Aspen’s carbon footprint by 30% by 2020, and goes a long way in supporting alternative forms of transportation that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS)
The premier teacher of outdoor skills and leadership
One percent of annual sales of our Alpine Berry herbal tea sachets are donated to support a scholarship for the National Outdoor Leadership School — an organization that had a strong impact on our CEO/Founder Richard Rosenfeld’s life, as Richard served as a NOLS instructor from 1997 – 2000. NOLS was founded in 1965 by legendary mountaineer Paul Petzoldt, and takes students of all ages on remote wilderness expeditions, teaching technical outdoor skills, leadership and environmental ethics in the world’s wildest and most awe-inspiring classrooms. NOLS graduates are active leaders with lifelong environmental ethics and outdoor skills.
As you know by now, we at two leaves tea company™ live in the mountains of Colorado because we love recreating in our mountainous surroundings. NOLS had a big hand in fostering Richard’s values of environmental stewardship, and to this day Richard feels that lessons learned in nature can often be applied to our everyday personal and work lives. Are we perfect partners? Perhaps you should sip a cuppa’ tea in the great outdoors, and then let us know what you think.
Finally – why Alpine Berry? This garnet-colored herbal tea has a deep aroma and distinct fruit flavors of hibiscus, blackberry and citrus, and we think it’s a perfect complement to a day in the wilderness! We love it iced in the summer, or while skiing, hot with honey. For more information on NOLS, visit www.nols.edu.
Whole Planet Foundation
Funding poverty alleviation efforts worldwide
The two leaves™ tea that you’re enjoying right now is sourced around the world from small, enterprising organic tea gardens. In our travels to source the best tea, we see the difference supporting business in impoverished communities can make in people’s lives. That’s where Whole Planet Foundation comes in. This nonprofit, started by Whole Foods Market, funds microlending projects around the world. Their mission is to provide the working poor in developing countries a chance to lift themselves out of poverty through microcredit. With these loans, recipients get an opportunity to launch or expand their own home-based business, creating a better future for themselves and their families through hard work.
On a regular basis, two leaves tea company™ dedicates a portion of sales at select Whole Foods Market locations to the nonprofit Whole Planet Foundation. To date, Whole Planet Foundation has authorized more than $41 million and disbursed more than $29 million through microlending partners worldwide.
